  • Stupid television

I think television is a waste of time, but I watch it anyway. Well, actually, I canceled my DIRECTV subscription over a year ago and I haven't missed it. If there's something I really want to watch, I can almost always watch it online.

Anyway, I am not afraid to admit that I absolutely love "Make it or Break it" on ABC Family. It's pretty silly, but still very enjoyable. Also, I am not afraid to voice my clear preference for Damon over Razor. What the heck is up with Razor? He's seems possessive AND stoned. Hrm. Damon is clearly hotter and also seems smart.

I found out that the guy who plays Damon has a band called Fairlene in Los Angeles. I would consider going to see them play. Also, I saw some photos of them on their MySpace and was amused by the fact that they have played the Cat Club. Heh.

  • Had a long (but fun) weekend...

Good to go on the new job, and we found an apartment in Mar Vista over the weekend! I'm relieved that I'm done searching... apartment hunting is tiring.

  • DMV tip: Make an appointment!

I went to the Palmdale DMV on Friday afternoon to renew my driver license. I received the notice in the mail that I needed to physically go in and have my photo taken. I made my appointment for 2:05PM.

When I arrived at 2:03PM, there were people everywhere. It looked like a zoo. I timidly walked up to the front of the line and was immediately given a laminated card that said "APPOINTMENT."

Making an appointment made my life much easier. I was out the door by 2:10PM, whereas I can only imagine that otherwise, it would have taken 2-3 hours.

After that I went to Quest Diagnostics for a urine drug screening... Ugh. When I got there I was informed that I might be waiting a long time because I did not have an appointment. Then a woman in the waiting area started throwing up after drinking the sugar solution for her glucose test. Well, that did it: The immediately shut down so they could have some sort of Hazmat team (maybe I'm just exaggerating here?) come and clean up. I ended up going to an independent testing facility where the service was prompt and more thorough than Quest. So I guess the barfing lady actually saved me some time. The lesson here: If you need to get something done in a timely manner, make an appointment, or at least call ahead to make sure you won't need one.

  • weekend recap...

It was pretty good and relaxing.

Dave and I "vacationed" at Club Maybauer in Santa Monica so we could puppysit. There were definitely times when I was tired that I thought to myself, "There's no way I'd ever get a puppy." But then again, Denali (puppy) is super cute and fun. So, it wasn't bad, just a bit tiring at times!

We ate some good food, but otherwise spent most of our time chilling with Deni. (We tried our best to stick the basic schedule and all things considered, I think we did a good job!)

On Sunday afternoon, we walked down to the 3rd St Promenade to do some shopping. In recent months, we have both made an effort to spend less money, so we splurged a bit... nothing too big, but just some small clothes. Our favorite trip was to J.Crew, where we both saw pretty things that we loved and wanted. We did buy some stuff, but there was a lot that we liked and resisted.

I used to really love Banana Republic, but it's lost a bit of luster in the last few years. I find a lot of their clothes to either be matronly, or to have really ugly and tacky prints and patterns. There are some nice things, but I tend to like their men's selection much better than women's. J.Crew, on the other hand, might be a bit reserved and preppy, but the colors are gorgeous, the styling is great, and the clothes are classy. They exercise a restraint that helps their clothing seem so much more expensive and high quality. And the colors... let's just say that I'd do my colors very similarly. <3

I think Dave has been liking J.Crew a lot lately, too. He bought a shirt there and was eyeing this really nice coat... We got out of there before we could spend too much money!

Oh, and we watched one of the street musicians for a while. We didn't stay long, but I bought a CD and thought he was pretty decent. Maybe I'll see him play again sometime?

All in all, a decent weekend...

About Me

  • Canyon High School, class of 1996... Harvey Mudd College, class of 2000 (BS Engr)... Fashion Inst of Design & Merchandising, class of 2007 (AA Fashion Design)... I always find myself torn between engineering and the easy nerd life, versus design and the cut-throat art life. My goal is to be a non-starving artist. I enjoy most everything, including sports (running, snowboarding, soccer, softball, volleyball), arts (singing, dancing, fashion, drawing, jewelry-making), being lazy, my fishtank (2 peppermint shrimp, and a clarkii clownfish), and general stupidity. I like reading about others' lives, so long as they don't annoy me with their conservative anti-democrat ranting. That's all.
